The Woodbine Symbol
Woodbine Symbol

“There is no doubt that the Winchester and Colt received credit for settling the Southwest, (but) that in reality belongs to the windmill.”
Windmills & Pumps of the Southwest

If there’s one enduring icon of progress in the Southwest, it must be the windmill. These wonderfully simple machines made it possible for pioneers to settle the frontier. They harnessed prairie winds to coax water from the earth, keeping crops and livestock alive, steam locomotives chugging and gristmills turning. Truly, windmills made the settlement of this arid land a reality. Today windmills still dot the landscape from Texas to Arizona, standing and working as dependable partners to farmers, ranchers, and other residents of the Southwest.

Woodbine Development has adopted the windmill as its corporate symbol. The windmill and Woodbine stand for teamwork, endurance and a job well done.
