Woodbine purchased and renovated the historic Hotel Texas to bring the 1921 property up to Hyatt standards, reopening for business in 1981. The original hotel building included 289 guest rooms; in the late 1960s an annex was built, adding 225 rooms to the mix. We added modern functionality but kept the property’s original charm, creating a luxury hotel environment. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Recorded Historic Texas Landmark. In 1984, Buildings magazine awarded Woodbine a Certificate of Modernization Excellence for its work in rehabilitating the Hotel Texas.
